Josh & Emily’s Glen Affric Vow Exchange | Autumn in the Scottish Highlands

Glen Affric is one of Scotland's special glens – rugged, peaceful, and a rewilding success. For Josh and Emily, it was the perfect setting to exchange their vows after officially marrying at Inverness Registry Office in the morning.

The Highlands were glowing. Autumn had painted the landscape in copper, amber, and gold, with soft light filtering through Scots pines and silver birch. The air was cool and still, and the blue sky made every colour feel alive.

We began with a few relaxed family photos by the river – laughter, movement, and that easy kind of joy that comes when everyone’s together. Once the boys headed off with their aunt, the forest fell quiet, and we wandered through the trees for some time alone.

Among the trees and along the river’s edge, I photographed Emily and Josh as they simply were – natural and connected. Every small moment told its own story: the brush of a hand, the sound of the water, the light catching in her hair.

We finished at a quiet viewpoint above the treeline, where they exchanged vows with the mountains stretching wide behind them. It was calm, honest, and beautifully understated – everything they wanted it to be.

My aim was to create photographs which felt genuine and down-to-earth, using a mix of candid moments and gentle guidance to reflect their love story and the spirit of the Highlands around them.

Josh and Emily, thank you for trusting me to photographs these special moments for you.

If you’re planning your own Glen Affric vow exchange or Highland elopement , I’d love to tell your story in a way that feels real and true to you.
